Democracy School: A Statewide Activist Strategy Session

October 7 and 8, 2016

“As a people of ‘we the people’ fame, we have become either ahistorical, amazingly obedient, exceedingly stupid or all three. We can stay that away if we choose–either denying the corporate state or resigning ourselves to it–with the understanding that every day we fail to challenge the corporate state is another day that the planet falls down around us.”

–Thomas Linzey, Executive Director and Co-Founder, Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund

What is Democracy School?

The Daniel Pennock Democracy School is a stimulating, illuminating course that teaches citizens and activists how to reframe exhausting and discouraging single-issue work (opposing fracking, toxic waste dumps, injection wells, cyanide use in mining, factory farming, prohibitions on minimum wage increases) in a way that confronts corporate control on a powerful single front: people’s constitutional rights. Learn how interconnected legal doctrines caused the “Citizens United” problem and how one unified organizing method breaks open the roadblock to democracy, economic equity, and sustainability. Included in enrollment in Democracy School: a 300+ page notebook of background reading material.
